C171C Old Walnut Parlor Set Sofa Settee Arm Chair Side Chair- Antique Victorian East Lake Cottage Furniture Gentleman's and Lady's Chairs
This is a beautiful Victorian parlor set. The set includes a settee or sofa, a larger gentleman’s or master arm chair and three smaller lady’s or side arm chairs. The set is designed in the Eastlake Aesthetic movement or Cottage Furniture style which became popular in the latter half of the 19th century. Along with the features that are classic of an Eastlake piece there are also carved heads on the corners of every piece of this set. These different heads all have a hat or bonnet of some sort around their head. I am not sure what this hat is supposed to be as some of the carved heads are men as you can see with their mustaches. The only other suggestion I have is that it might be some sort of helmet on the heads. Either way this parlor set is an excellent example of the Eastlake Aesthetic movement with all of the pieces being in excellent condition. The sofa measures 39” high, 75” wide, and 30” deep with the seat area measuring 62” by 22”. The master chair measures 38” high while the seat measures 21” wide and 20” deep. The three side chairs are 35” high with seats measuring 19” by 19”. Circa 1880. - $5500. for the set. This month's special offer - $4750.
