G034B Amphora Figural Group Child Riding Goose
Exceptional piece of signed 'Amphora'. This figural group depicts a child riding on the back of a full figured goose. This cupid like child figure on the back of the goose appears to be whispering something to the submissive goose that stands with it's neck arched downward. Notice that this statute has a large wicker styled basket on the front side of the goose. This statue stands 13" high, and the base is 8" x 6" and at the widest point this figural group is 11 1/2" wide. Wonderful gold highlights and teal green and earth tone true colors known to Amphora make this an exceptional piece. Also, notice the Amphora markings on the bottom, 'Austria', 'Amphora', '4670', and the 'crown' symbol.
We were thrilled to be able to acquire this piece from the Alvin & Margaret Schmidt Estate Auction. The Schmidt's were from Waterloo, Iowa. Here is a note that was listed on the auction sale bill concerning the Schmidt's. 'There are very few collections that equal what Margaret and her late husband Alvin Schmidt of Iowa have collected. For many years, the Schmidt's have managed to collect some of the most attractive antiques available. Their obvious goal was to find items in excellent condition with a wide variety of interest. We believe they succeeded in both. Their auction has some special highlights that include, reverse painted lamps, quality French Cameo, WaveCrest, Art Glass, Nippon, and nearly 700 more lots of various antiques.' Truly a collection like this is a treasure in it's self to find today!!
