G147B  Large Wedgwood Classic Vase Pastille Burner

Large Wedgwood urn-shaped potpourri vase. This is a very rare and all original signed, 'Wedgwood' only Classic covered vase that serves as a pastille burner. Circa 1891 and prior. Notice the grooved ledge that supports the slotted lid for this pastille burner and the perfect fit that this lid supplies, omitting any doubt that this lid and vase are not original to each other. The vase is bolted onto the very bottom pedestal base allowing the vase to rotate. The bottom pedestal portion measures 5 1/2" diameter the vase stands 12" high to the outside edge, and the final when the lid is attached makes this pastille burner stand an impressive 16" high. At the widest point this burner measures 10" diameter. This pastille burner is all original however there is some places where the white jasper ware is missing. Mainly these places are around the wide outer lip of this vase where the acanthus leaf designs drape down. We have taken some close ups to show you these places. This is again a very rare piece to find and taking in to fact the age of this item very understandable this imperfections, however we want to fully represent this piece. There is several scenes on the vase of this Wedgwood Jasper Ware piece, I could not identify these as well as some other pieces of Wedgwood that I have but perhaps one of them is Melpomene, the muse of tragedy. Excellent details on these scenes along with a sheep, full figured trees, and exceptional details throughout. Again, a very rare pastille burner that is marked with the Wedgwood only signature, a piece that you will not want to miss adding to your own personal Wedgwood collection.
This particular piece of Wedgwood Jasper Ware came from out of the private estate collection of Bea Fray of Moberly, Missouri. Her husband was an eye doctor for many years in this area and Bea recently was selling down some of his fine antiques. We are thrilled to be able to offer this fine piece of Wedgwood Jasper Ware for sell. Please check out my other items as there was some other fine pieces of Wedgwood that we were able to acquire along with this fine piece. - SOLD
