G148B Wedgwood Jasper Ware Double handled Vase
This is an excellent example of a signed piece of Wedgwood only Jasper Ware, circa 1891 and prior, done in the form of a pastille burner. The pastille burner produced a room freshing aroma through the burning of it's aromatic contents known as pastille. In the twentieth century these types of vessels became more or less obsolete.
This pastille burner has detailed jasper ware designs and the different scenes depicted are, 1) 'Aesculapius - Treating a Youth', 2) Muses watering Pegasus, 3) Friendship Consoling Affliction, 4) The Archers, 5) Icarus and Daedalus, and 6) Bellerophon Watering Pegasus. This same type of pastille burner is featured in the reference book, Wedgwood Jasper Ware - A Shape Book and Collectors Guide', by Michael Herman, on page 121. The slotted insert being the only difference. This burner stands 7 3/4" high to the top of the handles, and from handle to handle this burner is 10 3/4" wide. The base is 4" x 4". The slotted insert is 6 1/4" diameter, and notice the fitted groove that the insert rests in to support it inside the pastille burner base. This is an all original and in very exceptional original condition pastille burner that again is signed Wedgwood only that you will be sure to want to add to your own personal collection.
This particular piece of Wedgwood Jasper Ware came from out of the private estate collection of Bea Fray of Moberly, Missouri. Her husband was an eye doctor for many years in this area and Bea recently was selling down some of his fine antiques. We are thrilled to be able to offer this fine piece of Wedgwood Jasper Ware for sell.
