(click on pictures to get better view then click on back button to return) G156B Wedgwood Jasper Ware Biscuit BarrelThis is a beautiful example of a signed, 'Wedgwood' jasper ware biscuit barrel, or sometimes called cracker jar. The Wedgwood marking dates this jar to prior to 1891 circa. Silver bottom button feet and silver top rim and handle top this biscuit barrel, and there is hallmark signatures on the underneath side of the silver lid. Notice the intricate beaded work in the silver around the rims of both the top and bottom. The jasper dip design around the base of the jar depicts an 'Offering to Peace' scene as well as other 'Sacrificing Figures'. A biscuit barrel of very similar style can be found in the reference book, 'Wedgwood Jasper Ware A shape book and Collectors Guide', by Michael Herman, on page 32. The only variation is that the biscuit barrel in the book is supported by a handle with a finial in the center. This barrel measures 6" high and the handle when stool upright stands up 9 1/2". The diameter is right at 5" and at the widest point handle hinge to hinge is 6" wide. This highly decorative jasper piece is in all good original condition and there is several cupids for all you cupid collectors that you will not want to miss.
