G306B Wedgwood Jasperware Match Box Green
This is an all original and excellent original condition green colored Wedgwood match holder or match box as they are both referred to. The striker on this match box will be found on the underneath side of the lid opposite the storage compartment for the matches. This piece measures 3 3/4" by 2" and stands only 1" high. The base of the match box is decorated with winged cupids on both ends, the lid of the box depicts a scene as if one has come to beg at the feet of a Goddess playing a harp with a stern figure in the background with rope and rod. In the reference books this scene is simply called, 'Group with Cage', so what I interrupted for a harp is indeed a cage. I do not know the name of all the scenes, perhaps those of you with extensive Wedgwood collections could better help me to identify all the scenes that are on this Wedgwood match box. The bottom of the match box reads, 'Wedgwood' in impressed letters. - SOLD
