M043C Railroad Locomotive Bell
All original old EMD Diesel Locomotive bell that was purchased here locally in south central Nebraska. This bell came from a retirement auction for Carl & Carol Christen in Broken Bow, Nebraska. This bell weighs 55 pounds, and in several places there is information on this bell signed with raised letters and numbers. The bell on the inside where the 'clapper' is located, has the information, 'Prime Milw', in a couple of places. On the outside of the bell on the top is the following, '8044623 - Reva' and 'Viloco BR 113'. Also, the letters, 'EMD 8004158'. This bell measures 12" diameter across the bottom and it has a height of approximately 12" high. The top metal bracket is 6" x 6".
We have been informed that on our bell the
EMD stands for the "Electro-Motive Division" of General Motors, this was the division that built the diesel locomotives. Because of the type of mounting plate used on this bell the age could be anywhere from the early 1950's on. The brass air connection on our bell makes one think that it may be from an older locomotive such as the GP7 series built in the early 50's.
