M480B Yellow Cast Iron Traffic Signal Reflector
This is an old all original piece of cast iron which has been made to serve as a type of a traffic signal, or caution sign. Notice that there is four orange reflectors that
are built into this yellow dome. Each one of the reflectors measures 5" diameter with overall measurements being 14" diameter and 9 1/2" high with the very center top portion measuring 9" diameter.
There is an opening on the bottom of this piece with the interior being hallow.
The exact purpose of this piece I am not certain to tell you, I do know that
this signal came from out of Hansen, Nebraska. What a unique piece of old
cast iron. If you have seen one of these before and know the exact purpose for
which they were built, please drop us an email as it would be educational to
know. - SOLD
Information shared with us:
Reference your request for more info on this item, it looks exactly like an old "island light" or "island marker" which were typically used to mark the edges of concrete islands at intersections where traffic light or other poles would be. These lights would warn drivers that there is an island there, so they wouldn't try driving over it, and there would usually be one at each corner or edge of the island. I have not seen any of these in years, but they were pretty neat while they were in operation! I wouldn't think it would be hard for the new owner to put a basic light bulb fixture underneath it to have it light up.
