M498B  Clysmic Lady & the Elk Advertising Tray

his is a very detailed and fully decorated advertising tray that advertises, 'Clysmic - King of Table Waters'. The center of this tray is decorated with a nubile young woman holding an oversized bottle of Clysmic Water and dipping her feet into a spring fed pond as a nearby elk drinks from the same pool. The tray measures 13 1/4" x 10 1/2" and 1 1/4" high to the edges of the tray. The tray is marked on the front in the lower center circle, 'The American Art Works - Coshocton, Ohio.' Very good all original condition. Circa 1907. We were told the following information regarding the history on this company.
The Clysmic Mineral Spring in Waukesha, Wisconsin was first used for commercial purposes in 1878. After a succession of different owners, in 1906 the company using the spring as a source of water was named the Clysmic Spring Company. A major revision to the bottle labels and it's advertising commenced in May, 1907, with the new slogan being 'King of Table Waters'. A new trademark was also designed at the time, called 'The Lady and the Elk'. Serving trays, tip trays, and large advertising signs were issued showing a young woman and elk.
There is some reproductions of this tray, however the reproductions are round and not rectangular. - SOLD
