P098B 4 Bausch & Lomb Optical Adv. Prints
History and advertising together. We are offering a set of four prints that advertise Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. advertising. One of the prints depicts Benjamin Franklin and it reads: 'Benjamin Franklin, by his invention of the bifocal lens in 1874, gave the great gift of
youthful vision to generations of spectacle wearers.' the prints are all the same size and they measure 17" x 21 1/4". In the upper left hand corner of this print it is signed, 'Harold Anderson'.
Another one of the prints is: Willebrord Snell and it reads, 'Willebrord Snell discovered the law of refraction in 1621. This law makes possible
precise computation of modern lenses and optical instruments'. Again, this print is signed by the artist, 'Harold Anderson'.
Third print is Antonio Van Leeuwenhoek and it reads, 'A most significant event was the discovery of bacteria in 1675 by
Antonio Van Leeuwenhoek, who used a primitive microscope of his own manufacture. This print is signed in the lower right hand corner: 'W.F. Soare' and there is a copyright mark, 'B. & L. O. Co.'. There is
minimal crease marks on this print, where the other two above prints were in very good all original condition.
The last print is Galileo, and it reads, 'In 1609 Galileo was acclaimed by distinguished citizens of Venice when he demonstrated his first telescope from the tower of St. Marks.' This prints is signed in lower right hand corner, 'W.F.Soare', with again copyright B. & L. O. Co.'. There is some wear on this print, but still very good detail to this advertising print. All the prints are done on a heavy cardboard type material. If you were wanting advertising décor this set of four prints would be a great find.
