P118B  Old Sleepy Eye Art Frame or Pillow Square

This is an exceptional all original old Sleepy Eye advertisement type sign that is still in it's original wood frame, and notice the wordage around the canvas Old Sleepy Eye square that reads, 'A Sleepy Eye Art Square or Pillow Frame - It Goes With Sleepy Eye Flour & Cereals'. The very detailed side portrait of Indian Chief Old Sleepy Eye and the native American lifestyle and heritage that is depicted around his portrait is exceptionally done, showing buffalo, teepees, and life on the open prairies. In the lower right hand corner this piece is signed with the following information, 'Copyrighted by The Monasch Litho. Co. Minneapolis, Minnesota'. Again the original condition is excellent. On the backside this wood frame still has a partial label that reads, 'Framed by A.H. Vilas Co.'.  This particular piece was purchased by us from an avid antique collector in Kearney, Nebraska. This particular person had acquired this Sleepy Eye advertisement in Ida Grove, Iowa. Two elderly sisters were selling their late parents pieces from the dry goods/grocery store they had operated for numerous years. It was a merchandise advertisement piece their parents had hanging in the store and was being sold because the old store was being torn down. The rural store was within a 30 mile radius of Ida Grove. We have the above information in writing from the person who bought the sign when it became available from the sisters in Ida Grove.  Everything is original on this sign. This sign has never been messed with. The wooden frame measures 24 1/4" x 24 1/4" and the frame is approximately 3/4" thick. We are thrilled to be able to find an all original piece as fine as this. - Price $6500.
