This is a much sought after Kate Greenway silver plated Victorian Napkin Ring, circa 1880. It depicts a young child giving a treat to a dog, and is modeled after the Victorian boys and girls who were featured and illustrated in children’s books and valentine cards by Kate Greenway, who was born in London in 1846. Her popularity spread to America, where even collecting Kate Greenway items became quite faddish. This American napkin ring was manufactured by Meriden Britannia Company in Meriden, Ct USA. Marked and numbered 199 on the underside. The ring measures: 3 1/2″ long x 1 3/4″ wide x 3 1/4″ high.
