Q003B Feather Stitched Crazy Quilt - Friendship
quilt 1866
This feather stitched crazy quilt is dated 1886, and the history with this quilt is that it was made by the women of Parker, South Dakota in 1886 as a money making project. The quilt is made of blocks that have been autographed with people's initials, and or names. The center block that has the date also has the names, Mr. & Mrs. I.S.C. Gorham' embroidered on the block. This quilt is very busy and there is so many exceptional blocks of embroidered work, and different stitches that have been used. Some designs that stand out are the folding fan blocks, embroidered moon and stars, animal shapes, frogs, and several embroidered floral sections and wheat shocks and cherry branch. The original condition is excellent and I do not see any holes or any particular fabric that is showing any wear as so many times can happen with this old of a crazy quilt. This is an exceptional find and if you enjoy genealogy this quilt has a wealth of family history from the Parker, South Dakota area. The quilt measures 51 1/2" x 61 1/2" in size and there has been a 3 1/2" lace border attached around the edge. These old crazy quilts are getting harder and harder to locate and you will not want to miss out on adding this one to your own personal collection.
