T403  STRAW STUFFED BEAR - 1912

  - EYES ARE LIGHT BULBS. VERY GOOD CONDITION. CIRCA 1912.Measures 21"Height EYES ARE LIGHT BULBS. VERY GOOD CONDITION. CIRCA 1912. Note the original cord with the wood ball that comes down from the front of the neck. One would push the switch in the wood ball to make the eyes light up. The seam in back must be opened to change batteries. I have left the bear in the condition I found him so I have not replaced the battery or eyes. However, I do not think it would take much to restore the bear to the original working condition. I read in a Teddy Bear Book about a little girl that received a bear similar to this one in 1907 for Christmas. The family discovered the cat was terrified of the eyes. Her older brother delighted in chasing the cat, flashing the bears eyes at it. This bear has all it's original pads on all four appendages and the mohair is in excellent condition. A little bit of wear shows up on the left hip of the back side but nothing that detracts from the bear. A few stitches could be made in the seams at the back of the neck. A very lovable bear just waiting for a new home. didn't want to disturb the original condition of the bear. The back of the head has a 2" opening in one seam that needs stitched. Also, the top of the back has a seam that needs stitched to the neck approximately 1" and then another 1/2" goes up into the head. The thread has just given out in these seams. They are not tares. I can see the straw filling at these points, but it is tight and all intact and not coming out of the seams. - SOLD
