W073B Victorian Wicker Baby Stroller Buggy
Extra fancy early Victorian wicker baby stroller with canopy fringed edge top. Exceptional all original condition on this early stroller buggy. Metal wheels and springs support the wicker and wood frame. The finishing touch is the fancy canopy top! There is one metal spoke missing in one of the wheels, and the leather covered fringe top and upholstered interior do so signs of wear, but for the time period that this stroller dates to, I would still classify the condition as exceptional. This wicker buggy was acquired from the auction of James & Martha Eden, of Chillicothe, Missouri. The Eden's had purchased this Victorian stroller through a family member of the Eden's neighbor there in Chillicothe. The neighbor's name was Elizabeth Elserry. Elizabeth's family still had with this stroller an exciting piece of history that someone over the years has placed in a frame. This piece of paper has been hand written and some of the words are difficult to read completely, but to the best of my interpretation it reads as follows: Baby buggy purchased for Poccahontas Prather Sayers by her two great grandfathers. Meshack Smith & Thomas Prather. She was their first great grandchild. Own by her brother, George W. Prather.' Again, some of the spellings and names I could be corrected, but how exciting to have this original hand written document with this stroller that dates to the early 1800's! This wicker stroller would be a must for an avid antique doll or early Teddy Bear collector. Can't you just see this stroller with a fine antique doll or early Teddy going for a ride! This stroller measures 44 1/2" high to the top of the canopy. The wheels are 20" diameter in the front and 22" diameter on the back. The height of the handle for pushing the stroller is 34" high. The back wheels are the widest point and they measure 25 1/2" wide from hub to hub. Approximately 54" long is the stroller from the front wheel to the handle bar in the back. Also, note that the canopy has an adjustable tilt to it.
