Americana tramp art covered box which has been made from old cigar boxes. Notice that the top finial which allows you to lift the lid on this box features a full-figured carved dog. This box was made by Gary Ellis from The Amish community of Jamesport, Missouri. Mr. Ellis and his wife, Carol for years operated a wonderful antique shop specializing in high end primitive, early pine furniture and Americana smalls. Gary was a most creative man, and he made these covered boxes made from out of old cigar boxes. He also made unique yard ornaments and Grotesque face jugs. Notice that on the bottom of this box there is a penciled face drawing and the initials G.E. along with date. Notice that Gary kept the ‘Flor De Fuller’ advertising wordage and used it from the old cigar boxes. This box measures 8 1/4″ x 6″ and stands to the top of the finial 6″ high. If you collect tramp art this piece made from old antique cigar boxes would be a highlight in your collection.
