This pair of heavy cast iron bookends of the famous Pilgrims, John Alden and his wife Priscilla Mullins made by Bradley and Hubbard at the early part of the 20th century. The Bradley and Hubbard Company was a company that began in 1852 and continued as an independent concern until the Parker Co. acquired it in 1940. During that time, this Meriden, CT. firm was regarded as one of the preeminent producers of fashionable lamps high quality home accessories that are highly valued and widely collected today. Immortalized by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s 1858 poem, The Courtship of Miles Standish, John Alden’s marriage to Priscilla Mullins was one the earliest romances in the American colonies.  Here we have these two fascinating historical figures immortalized in cast iron bookends, forever joined together in a single purpose. Bookends measure 6″ height, 3 3/4″ wide and 3″ depth.
