This is a marked ‘Simpson, Hall, Miller & Company’ Silver napkin ring holder that features a full-figured Kate Greenaway figure of a little girl holding a toy rifle. This is the number 205 napkin ring holder. The 205 number is faintly marked on this holder.
The girl stands in front of the napkin holder on a square base with decorative scrolled feet. Patriotic games were approved as acceptable play before the period of war protestors and out-of-favor children’s military toys. This piece measures 2 3/4″ by 2 3/4″ on the raised base and is 3 1/2″ high
The diameter of the napkin ring is 1 3/4″ diameter. We were told that this napkin ring came from the estate of Bob Byerley from Independence, Missouri which is located close to the Kansas City, Missouri area. Bob was an avid artist. What a unique subject to have this little girl holding a toy rifle to add to your antique napkin ring collection!
This napkin ring is a featured one in the antique reference book,’ Figural Napkin Rings’ by ‘Lillian Gottschalk & Sandra Whitson’ on page 220.
