Antique Victorian Art Glass Cranberry Opalescent Sweet Meat Basket with Applied Rigori and Vaseline Glass

This is a beautiful piece of Victorian art glass that features a sweetmeat dish with cranberry and altering Vaseline to clear strips with an applied rigori impressed Vaseline glass border that secures and holds the basket into the silverplated holder. The holder has hallmarks and is marked with the letters, ‘E.P.N.S’ – ‘P. Bros’. – 9407′. EPNS stands for Electroplated Nickel Silver. It’s an alloy made from nickel, copper, and zinc, which is then covered with a layer of pure silver through an electrochemical process. Note the three detailed claw feet and ball at the top of this holder. This holder measures 6″ high is 6 1/4″ diameter at the widest. The top of the basket is 5″ diameter. This is a beautiful piece and one that you will be certain to enjoy better in person as the true beautiful of the coloring in the glass is hard to capture in photos.
