What a unique and creative piece of early 1900’s folk art basket is made from the outer shell of an armadillo. Notice that the tip of the tail, which the tail is what makes the handle of the purse, extends and connects into the mouth of the armadillo and is then secured with a small piece of wire. The inside of the bowl has been padded and then lined with fabric and note how they had to drill very small holes along the top edge of the shell of the armadillo and then take thread to secure the fabric liner to the armadillo shell. This shell measures 10 1/4″ long by 8″ wide and the total height is 10 1/2″ high. What a unique and creative piece of early folk art!
