Antique Jean-Baptiste Carpeaus Artist Signed Bronze – Lady Holding Rose

This is a beautiful antique bronze statue that depicts a full figured woman that is lounging on a bench while holding a rose in one hand and depicts a reflective pose on her face. This piece is artist signed by, ‘Carpeaus’. From the reference book, ‘A Text Book of the History of Sculpture’ we learn this artist is, ‘Jean Baptiste Carpeaus’. (1827 – 1875) the book references her work, ‘Follower in the line of rude and jarye, a pupil of rude and a sculptor of considerable importance! We were told that this bronze was originally purchased in Mexico, Missouri. This bronze is tastefully done and projects a thoughtful statement.
