Cast iron Monkey and Coconut mechanical bank, made by J & E Stevens Company. Notice that this bank has a patent date on the underneath of the bank that reads ‘Patd 2/2/1825’. The action of this mechanical bank happens when you place a coin in the monkey’s hand, then press the lever. The monkey will open the coconut and drop the coin in it; and as it falls the movements of the monkey’s mouth and eyes give him a very lifelike & amusing expression. This bank is in superb original condition and in excellent working condition, this is a fine, example of a scarce and beautiful mechanical bank. This bank measures: 8 1/2″ tall x 5″ deep x 3 1/4″ wide. Circa 1825.
