Antique Covered Jar with Two Handles – Buttercup Design – Colonial Ware

This is an exceptional piece of Mount Washington Colonial Ware. Colonial Ware was produced from 1871 until the late 1890’s. The pieces were beautifully decorated with colonial figures as well as various scenes of animals and floral designs. This is a unique shaped double handled jar that is capped with a peaked matching lid (that is always missing) and is referred to as being the Buttercup Design. This piece can be referenced in the antique Mt. Washington Art Glass book by Betty B. Sisk, on page 75. This is a signed piece of Colonial Ware with the shape number and the laurel wreath with red crown. This piece measures 8 3/4″ diameter and is 8″ high to the top of the finial styled lid. Excellent original condition. This is a wonderful example of Colonial Ware that you will not want to miss adding to your own personal collection.
