Antique country or general store display cabinet that advertises and sells medical products for ‘Dr. J.H. McLean – St. Louis, Missouri. The top of the cabinet states that the product sold in this cabinet will help with Strengthening Cordial and Blood Purifier. Note that the top crown on this cabinet has been replaced over the years, someone has added the top crown that is above the wordage. We do have a photo that shows originally what the top would have looked like. Something that is fun that we have with our cabinet is the Dr. McLean’s Medical Almanac for 1914. It is fun to read all the insights and products that Dr. J.H. McLean had available. To compare Dr McLean’s insights to an article that we found on the internet that is titled, ‘A Beautiful Medical Cabinet From Dr. J.H. McLean’s Quack Medicine Empire!’ The article is very interesting and states that ‘the Strengthening Cordial and Blood Purifier product was 85-100 proof alcohol. Dr McLean did become a member of Congress and was very successful. This cabinet measures 31 1/4″ high is 17 1/2″ wide by 6 1/2″ deep and the deepest center. Circa on this cabinet would be late 1800’s to early 1900’s. Notice the etched advertising on the glass front of this cabinet.
