Antique silver-plated locking tantalus liquor decanter. In the late 19th century spirits such as Scotch, Brandy, Gin was expensive and were kept locked away from the servants of the household. However, the fact that they were so visible gave its name “tantalus” to these items which often would carry two or three decanters. Notice the engraved signature on the end of the handle, ‘The Tantalus’ and on the opposite end it reads, ‘Betjemann’s patent 28025 – London’. The holder measures 15″ by 6 3/4″ deep and stands 13 1/2″ high to the top of the handle when in the locked position. Each decanter is 10 1/2″ high by 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″. These decanters are in great condition made with cut crystal glass. This set is all complete along with the locking key. An extremely elegant manner to serve with and a great conversation piece to add to your antique collections.
