Following is some of the history for Little Heiskell. Hagerstown is known for it’s German ancestor. Jonathan Hager was the town’s founding father. Originally, the town was named Elizabethtown in his wife’s honor. Later, in January 1814, when the town had grown to 2,500 people, it was enacted to change the name to Hagers Town. Eventually, it became Hagerstown. The symbol for Hagerstown is “Little Heiskell” which is a tin weathervane molded in the shape of a Hessian Soldier. This was designed in 1769 for Hagerstown’s first city hall by a German tinsmith whose name was Heiskell. This is a unique piece and in very good all original condition.
