European, 19th century. Wonderfully carved bust of Joan of Arc in the classic pose, wearing her French peasant girl’s garments, head turned to the left with eyes raised to Heaven as she hears God calling her to rise up and save France. Her impassioned but sensitive and innocent nature exceptionally rendered by the artist who captures it perfectly! JEANNE D’ARC carved on the front of base On the back shoulder it is signed G.Bessi. Measures 14 1/2″ Height, base is 15 1/4″ x 7 3/8″. Giuseppe Bessi (Italian 1857-1922).This came from a local estate in Dawson County, Nebraska.
