This forage cap would have been for the 1898 Spanish American War 2nd Regiment Calvalry at Fort Kearney. On the underside of the cap on the inside it reads that the maker for this cap was, ‘The Cincinnati Reglia Company of Cincinnati, Ohio’, This cap measures 7″ long by 6″ wide for the interior measurements.

Fort Kearney was established in 1848-it initially was much further east and was moved west several times. During the Civil War the 2nd Nebraska was organized at Fort Kearney.
During the Spanish-American war the 2nd Nebraska was organized in 1898.
