Gustav Stickley table, early form with hexagonal top over a stack stretcher base and central facetted peg, fine original leather top and tacks that encircled the edge of the table, one of Gustav Stickley’s most important forms, original finish, 48”w x 48”d x 30”h, (55″ point to point) very good condition. Circa 1901 – 1909. This table is signed with the red joiner’s compass with Gustav Stickley script signature, inside one leg.
Designer: Attributed to Henry Wilkinson or LaMont Warner. The hexagonal top dramatically differentiates it from the round or rectangular tops most often seen on Stickley library tables, and its leather covering – a functional, protective feature – adds varied textures and rich colors that contrast with the table’s deep-toned oak. The round-headed brass tacks spaced rhythmically along the tabletop’s outer edges have a slight, lighting-catching sheen and add yet another contrast, in this instance with both oak and leather.
This table was acquired from the personal estate auction of Richard E. Person of Holdrege, Nebraska, who had been an avid antique collector for over 40 years. We were told that Mr. Person used this hexagonal table as a game table in his home. (John’s house)
