Exceptional original pair of signed Western wooly chaps that are identified by the maker on the belt portion of the chaps and it reads, ‘AL. Furstnow – Miles City, Montana’. Note the exceptional condition of the wooly portion as well as the overall complete condition of these chaps. There is one old leather repair that adds character and verifies that these truly have been used and are old antique western chaps. We were informed that the chaps once belonged to a man by the name of William Easton, who originally was born in Canada in 1854 and lived several years of his life in Nevada where he was an engineer, an elected sheriff, an assessor, successful business man, and a US Senator. William died in 1921 in San Francisco, California.
The chaps measures approximately 30″ long on the inseam while the belt tip to opposite belt buckle is right at 44″ long. The overall length of the chaps is approximately 40″ long.
We were able to find extensive information online regarding the Albert F. Furstnow Company that the history. Al’s family came from being saddle and harness makers in Germany, and it was a skill he mastered and made a name for himself here in the United States. Albert was said to have made outfits for the Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show for the Pris Exposition while he was employed in Omaha, Nebraska for a short time. This is a great pair of wooly chaps and the maker and history are an exciting combination!
