This is a lower vase or a footed pedestal bowl shaped D’Argental cameo art glass bowl that has been done in a floral theme. Leaves on the underside, roses around the center of the bowl with thorn branches between the roses, and a unique feature is the lighter colored textured almost reptile or snake hide effect top edging. This bowl is marked by its maker, ‘D ‘Argental’. It measures 6 1/2″ diameter and stands 3 1/4″ high. Excellent all original condition on this fine example of cameo art glass.
D’Argental is a mark used in France by the Compagnie des Cristalleries de St. Louis. The firm made multilayered, acid-cut cameo glass in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Cameo glass was made with the D’argental mark from 1919 to 1925. D’Argental is the French name for the city of Munzthal, home of the glassworks.
