This is an exceptional early quilt circa 1860 to 1880 that is a Hawaiian quilt done in an Indigo appliqued design called the Fleur-de-lis or Oak Leaf pattern. The style and craftsmanship on this quilt are heavily influenced by early Hawaiian traditions, friendships, and hospitality displayed by the specific motif. This quilt is an example of the early styles and designs that Native Hawaiians brought to their quilts showing a connection to Hawaiian Culture, many symbolizing unity, respect, and love with families and community. This quilt measures 84″ by 91″ and the quilting measures 10 to 11 stitches per inch. Also note the unbelievable stitching around each of the appliqued pieces, the stitching is so even and close together. We have taken closeup photos of the areas where there is some yellow spots, which one would expect on this early of a quilt. This is a remarkable quilt and the exceptional condition that this quilt is in when it dates to the 1860’s is remarkable! Don’t miss adding this exceptional quilt to your antique quilt collection.
