What a great piece of American history, this all-original figural cast iron alligator match holder is an advertising item for the Monon Railroad route as it lists the cities along the way. You will notice the embossed lettering that reads, ‘Florida’, ‘Atlanta’, Cincinnati’, Chicago, Louisville, and Indianapolis. The alligator is hinged at the tail and reveals an interior compartment to store ones matches and there is a striker on the inside of the mouth of the alligator. What a fun and functional advertising piece of cast iron this match holder is. This piece measures 8 3/4″ long is 1 3/4″ high and 4″ wide.
