This is an exceptional early antique appliqued quilt that is dated 1860. Embroidered in one of the corners of the quilt, this quilt is personalized, and it reads, ‘John Giltner – Bourbon, Co. KY 1860’. We were told that this quilt was found locked in an old trunk stored away. The appliqued pattern features 9 large floral designs in the center body of the quilt that reminds one of a variation of a Wild Rose or Tulip appliqued floral pattern. Also, notice the unique outer appliqued alternating border design of birds and then flower buds that rest on the top of each saw tooth edged draping swag design that makes the outer border of this quilt. This quilt has some embroidery work note the golden-brown thread that connects the flowers to the stems and then of course the personalized information that is embroidered onto the corner of the quilt. This quilt has remarkable stitching of an even 12 plus stitches per inch. The quilt is a larger size measuring 93″x 94″. Note the early red and green fabrics that are in exceptional condition yet, and there is so much quilting on this entire quilt. We are thrilled to be able to have found such an early, dated, quilt and to be in this exceptional original condition. This is the type of antique that you always hope to find!!
