This is a wonderful tall, detailed tankard produced in Vienna Austria. It is very colorful, featuring a transfer scene of a man playing a double flute, the man is a shepherd by trade, one can see the sheep in the background grazing, and a beautiful young woman is enjoying his music. The decoration extends over the entire body of the piece, with gold highlights and a gold handle quickly catching one’s eyes. The background is a rich plum color and an excellent contrast to the gold gilt accents on the handle and open areas of the tankard. This tankard is large, standing 13 1/2″ tall and measuring 5 3/4″ across at the base. It is marked on the bottom Vienna Austria.
