Daguerreotype Victorian Photo of a Man and Woman is in very good condition with a nice case that is from 1857.  Hidden on the inside when the photos case is removed there were two stamps behind each photo. These are neat stamps, they are U.S. 5-cent revenue stamps, first issue, for foreign exchange. These stamps were issued during the Civil War era to pay federal taxes on various documents and goods.  Features a portrait of George Washington on them.  The stamps appear to be unused, or “mint never hinged,” which are scarce as they were not readily available to the public at the time.  (they are sticking to the back of the silk covering could probably be steamed off but I am leaving them) These stamps would date around 1862.

This beautiful case measures 4″ x 6″ and 3/4″ thick.
