Beautiful, Outstanding all original early Immigrant trunk dating to 1830. This is definitely a museum quality piece. This is an excellent example of the detail done by the 19th Century artists. It has the original paint and rosemalling and hardware. I have seen other early immigrant trunks, but the bright and lively colors and condition of this trunk are just outstanding. This trunk has the early hand hammered hardware, and we also still have the large key to this trunk. Notice the details that this trunk was made with dove tailed work on the corners and there is even early wheels that were placed on the bottom of this trunk, there is one of the original wheels missing. This trunk measures 46 1/2″ wide, 24″ high, and is 23″ deep. Notice the interior has two small side compartments.
We acquired this trunk from the North Sioux City, South Dakota area, upon visiting with the gentleman that we purchased this trunk from he stated that originally this trunk came from the Onawa, Iowa area, a local couple there sold this trunk to an antique mall in the area to sell it. This trunk had been in their family and they had decided to sell it.

We have also learned the following information regarding this trunk through someone seeing this item listed on ebay: I specialize in reading old Norwegian documents. The front of your trunk says ”Axel Knudtsen Nedre Vaagen”. Axel was born in 1804 in Os, Hordaland, Norway & baptized on 20 July 1804. He was the son of Knud Villumsen & Abel Olsdatter. Their farm name was Vaagen Nedre (aka Nedre Vågen). Axel married on 24 Oct 1842 to Anna Andersdatter (the daughter of Anders Olsen). Axel died in Norway in 1865 (although the record says he was age 62). His wife, Anna Andersdatter, preceded him in death, at age 46, in 1859 due to complications during giving child-birth. Axel Knudsen & Anna Andersdatter’s children were Abel Kathrine 1843, Anna 1845, Knud 1846, Anders Olai 1848, Axel Olai 1850, Elen Marie, son Jan, & Kari. After Anna Andersdatter died, Axel remarried to Anne Christophersdatter. They had 3 children, Mons Olai 1861, Annanias 1864, Anne Elene 1865. A Special thank you to Cheri Anderson for giving us this information, which is her speciality.
