This is an exceptional original example of the cast iron ‘Maine’ battleship with original working trap. Notice the word ‘Maine’ in raised letters on either side of the ship. The Maine was a United States Navy ship that sank in Havana Harbor on the 15th of February 1898, contributing to the outbreak of the Spanish–American War. This is the larger version of this highly collected ship and it measures 6 5/8″ long is 5 1/4″ high and 2 3/4″ wide. This bank was made by ‘Grey Iron Casting Company’ who were established in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania in 1881. Circa 1897 to 1903 for this bank. Note that there is two other words on this bank that are done in raised lettering, ‘Design – Pat.Png.’ This bank is one that you will not want to miss adding to your own personal cast iron still bank collection.
