Antique Chinese silk embroidery, this tapestry wall hanging or panel depicts Shoulao, the God of Longevity (holding a dragon headed staff), accompanied by the female attendant beside him is likely Magu, the Goddess of Longevity. She is shown holding a tray of peaches, which are mythical symbols of health and immortality. A spotted deer, another symbol of longevity, is also featured. The scene is meticulously hand-embroidered with fine silk threads onto a red silk ground. Often represents figures from Chinese mythology, such as immortals or beauties, surrounded by symbolic flora like peonies. Hand-embroidered using fine silk threads, frequently employing satin stitch to create a high-sheen effect. Typically created as decorative art for homes, with some older pieces potentially featuring metallic threads. Measures 36″wide and 90″ length. Dating to the 19th century or early 20th century.
